Google Pixel 7 Pro

Is the Google Pixel 7 Pro The Ultimate Flagship Killer of 2022?

Google, the search giant might have the largest share in the search-engine industry, but it’s still a laggard when it comes to the smartphone market. Indeed, we have better Android phones than Pixel. They are quite cheap too! Besides, too many, the price of the Pixel devices can be a dealbreaker. However, the tables are slowly turning. It seems Google is slowly realising the wants and needs of smartphone users, and one of the examples is the Google Pixel 6A. Surely, the phone is making ripples due to its top-notch camera quality. It has even somewhat created a benchmark in night photography. From there, it seems, Google does not want to turn back. Rather, the company is looking to turn the tide with its latest iteration, the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

Though Pixel devices are considered flagship products by Google, whether they stand out in the crowd is a different question that will attract debate and discussion. But the story is a bit different in the case of Google Pixel 7 Pro. Is it really a flagship killer of 2022? Let us consider a few points then.

A Brand New Chip by Google

A warm welcome to the Tensor G2, Google’s very own chipset that the Pixel 7 Pro houses.

This new chip is a 5 nm processor with Octa Core capabilities. Does that mean it’s top-notch? We have both good and bad news.

The bad news is that its Antutu benchmark score is only 740,510 and Geekbench single core score is 1051 and the multi-core score is 2858. Impressive? Not really, since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Mediatek Dimensity, both direct competitors of Google, are way ahead. Yes, if numbers are considered, they can put the Tensor G2 to dust.

Now the good news. If we are looking at the micro optimisations that include app opening time, multi-tasking and overall usage, Google’s proprietary chipset is a winner. How? It’s because the chip allows better hardware-software communications. Thus, if the Pixel 7 Pro from Google intends to go toe to toe with its competitors, it can both take and give pretty solid punches!

The Camera – A Definitive Factor

The 50 MP main camera with f/1.9 aperture and the 10.8 MP selfie camera with f/2.2 in the Pixel 7 Pro are a thing to behold.

The camera is already getting a lot of praise due to the quality of the photos it can capture. The daylight photos look great but the nighttime photo capability is creating all the excitement. They are crisp and contain no noise at all. But is the camera a winner and can slay all of its competitors? Perhaps not. But its foothold among smartphone photographers can make the Google Pixel a flagship that few would like to mess with.

Impressive Display – Zero Competition

Flagship devices boast cutting-edge displays. The Pixel 7 Pro has the same.

It comes equipped with an LTPO AMOLED, 120Hz, HDR10+ display with 1000 nits brightness that can peak to 1500 nits. Surely, a superb screen with enough luminance and colour temperature. However, since there are other Android devices with similar screens, the Pixel will not dare to compete. But if the model itself is considered, it’s surely a good upgrade from its previous iteration, the Pixel 6 which only had the ordinary AMOLED screen with a 90Hz display and featuring HDR10+.

Stereo Speakers with Enough Loudness

Here too, the Google Pixel 7 Pro does the job well. The speakers are loud and offer crystal-clear sound. So, nothing remarkable here. It’s the same as the flagship devices from other brands. In fact, several mid-rangers are also offering stereo speakers at present.

Lasts More than a Day

The Google Pixel 7 Pro can easily last more than a day due to its massive 5000 mAh battery. Even if many flagships do have this amount of battery capacity, they are still few in number. So, if daily device usage is considered, it can fight well and can easily fend off the mid-rangers having a battery capacity of around 4000 mAh. In fact, the previous iteration, Pixel 6A has a battery capacity of 4614 mAh. Thus, this is a notable upgrade.

Stock Experience – The Greatest of All

Yes, the stock Android experience is something that has to be experienced. Everything in the Google Pixel 7 Pro is so fast. There are no complications, no bloatware, nothing. But if a user likes to experience quirky UI tweaks with themes, perhaps the stock experience might not be his or her cup of tea.

So, is the smartphone the ultimate flagship killer of 2022? It’s for the users to decide. But it has made its mark and Google has now proven that the game has changed. However, they might have more magic hiding behind their sleeves that they are going to bring out in the upcoming iterations.
